USING SILASAVE FOR 6 YEARS WITH GREAT RESULTS!
Declan Murphy farms in Effin, Kilmallock, Co, Limerick alongside his wife Eileen and son Kieran. Together, they farm approximately 125 Holstein Friesian milking cows producing an average yield of 7,700 litres.
On farm, producing a crop of good quality silage is extremely important to maintain, especially as silage can be expensive. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure that minimal waste is produced.
Sam Sweetnam from Inform Nutrition met with Declan Murphy recently to discuss his use of SilaSave. Declan who has been using SilaSave for over 6 years says “We are happy with the results from using SilaSave. Silage is expensive so we try to mind every bit of it.”
SilaSave, silage protector, developed by Inform Nutrition Ireland, is simply applied to the top and shoulders of the pit after rolling and prior to covering. SilaSave reduces surface waste that occurs during the fermentation period when the pit is sealed. SilaSave will also help reduce surface waste from occurring after the pit is opened which is a problem on many farms.
Sam Sweetnam added “SilaSave contains a unique blend of organic acids and mould inhibitors that have 6 times the preservation capacity of salt allowing SilaSave to penetrate 6” beneath the surface of the silage pit.”
As the reaction occurs, the product seeps down through the top 18in of the pit. This preserves the top layer of the pit and inhibits the growth of harmful yeasts and fungi at the surface – thus reducing the quantity of waste silage produced.
Sam Sweetnam further added “Like many SilaSave customers, Declan has been using SilaSave for many years and is satisfied with the results that he has received and will continue to use this product in the future.”
